RIP networks

Hey guys,
I apologize as I know this has probably been addressed elsewhere in this forum but I can’t seem to find anything on it.
My simple question is, besides a distribute-list out or and offset-list, what other methods are there to prevent networks you don’t want in rip being sent to the next-hop. Ex:
R1 (with 3 loopbacks 172.16.2.1, 172.16.3.1, 172.16.4.1) connected to R3 via network 172.16.13.X. On R3, I don’t want to see the other 172.16 networks.
I’m really just curious if there is a cleaner way of doing this.
